Abstract
The present law aims at establishing an integrated system specifically designed for funding environmental initiatives and projects with the purpose of strengthening development through the environmental protection and the effective and transparent management of resources so as to upgrade and re-establish the natural environment and address the climatic change effects. This funding system includes the enactment of the Strategic Committee on Environmental Policy, the allocation and management of financial resources which are made available for the protection of the environment as well as the structural re-organization of the institution responsible for managing such funds which shall be named the “Green Fund”. The law through Chapter A prescribes rules and policies for the functioning of the Green Fund. Chapter B provides for an efficient utilization of procedures for creating and approving forest maps. The procedure for the delineation of urban settlements’ boundary lines are set out in articles 23 and 24. Chapter C deals with the sustainable urban planning of the city of Athens and the wider area of Attica while among the remaining provisions falling under the competence of the Ministry of Environment, Energy and Climate Change, matters regarding the management of renewable energy resources are dealt with under article 29 of the law.
