Law no. 5087 of 2024. Strengthening standard animal husbandry, fisheries and aquaculture provisions, phytosanitary, biocidal products and food quality provisions, rural development stimulation provisions and other urgent provisions.

This Law, consisting of 58 articles, provides for: promoting sustainable animal husbandry and fishing; strengthening the protection of plant production and the supervision of food quality; taking all the necessary initiatives to improve rural development, through the involvement of individual bodies, private sector, and the Ministry of Rural Development and Food agencies, and therefore amends previous legislation on these matters. The Law concerns the following aspects: measures for strengthening the primary sector; creation of livestock facilities zones; preparation of grazing management plans; amendment of Fishing Code; establishment of fisheries appeal review board and definition of its powers; provisions concerning the imposition of specific sanctions related to fisheries; measures for strengthening aquaculture; fishing tourism practice; administrative sanctions in the plant health sector, and procedure for imposing sanctions; control of biocidal products; measures for reducing unfair commercial practices and improving food quality services; establishment of meat vocational school, as a research and education centre; increasing responsibilities of the of the General Directorates of Veterinary Medicines, Food and Agriculture of the Ministry of Rural Development and Food; measures for addressing agricultural consequences and damages caused by extreme weather incidents; compensation for damages caused to agricultural crops; special levy on milk; sanitary burial and disposal of animals in case of natural disasters, in order to control and fight against the spread of infectious animal diseases.
Concerning the procedural provisions for strengthening rural development, the Law focuses on: installation of renewable energy sources units on highly productive agricultural land; adaptation of the statutes of agricultural cooperatives; specification of the roles of inspectors and auditors of the Ministry; establishment of regional branches of the Geotechnical Chamber of Greece; establishment of electronic registers of farmers; financial aids to support tourism of the island of Rhodes.
