Presidential Decree No. 297 laying down animal health and public health requirements governing trade in and imports into the Community of products, in compliance with Council Directive 92/118/EEC and amending Presidential Orders Nos. 243/1993 and 420/1993.

The Decree, in compliance with Council Directive 92/118/EEC, lays down the animal health and public health requirements governing trade in and imports in the national territory of products of animal origin (including trade samples taken from such products) not subject to the said requirements laid down in chapter I to Annex A of Presidential Order No. 420/1993 and, as regards pathogenic agents, Part B of the same Presidential Order. This Decree shall be without prejudice to the adoption of more detailed rules on animal health in the framework of the aforesaid specific rules nor the maintenance of restrictions on trade or imports of products covered by the specific rules referred to in the first paragraph based on the rules of public health. Annex I to this Decree deals with specific animal health requirements: liquid milk, dried milk and dried-milk products not intended for human consumption; animal casings; hides and skins; pet food containing low-risk materials within the meaning of Presidential Decree 243/1993; bones and bone products (excluding bone meal), horns and horn products (excluding horn meal) and hooves and hoof products (excluding hoof meal); processed animal protein; blood and blood products of animal origin (with the exception of equidae); serum from equidae; lard and rendered fats; raw material for the manufacture of animal feedingstuffs and pharmaceutical or technical products; rabbit meat and farmed game meat; apiculture products. Annex II, lays down specific public health conditions.
