Sea and River Defence Act (No. 9 of 2024).

This Act establishes the Sea and River Defence Board to be in charge of the care, maintenance, management and construction of sea and river defences. Section 6 lists the functions of the Board, including but not limited to: carrying out works in an emergency to avert or mitigate flooding. The Board shall consider and review the need for sea and river defences taking into account: (i) the extent, condition and effectiveness of existing sea and river defences, (ii) flood risks to the local habitat and environment; (iii) scientific, social, economic and environmental considerations; (iv) the national and local interests; and (v) any other matter considered relevant by the Board or the Minister.
This Act lays down provisions on the provision, maintenance and construction of national and local sea and river defences; management of waterfront development zones; access to information; authorized officers and their powers; flood protection notices; offences and penalties; liability for loss and damage; and administrative penalties.
