Climate change adaptation strategy in the Republic of Croatia for the period up to 2040 with a view to 2070.

This Strategy, based on the provisions of the Law on climate change and ozone layer protection, sets the climate change adaptation means and objectives in the Republic of Croatia for the period up to 2040 with a view to 2070. The vision of "Republic of Croatia resilient to climate change" has been set, which will be achieved by achieving the goal of (a) reducing the vulnerability of natural systems and society to the negative effects of climate change, and (b) strengthening resilience and recovery capacity. Although nature itself is endangered, it is the backbone of adaptation to climate change. Preserved ecosystem services support socio-economic development and strengthen the resilience of society and the economy to climate change. The potential positive effects of climate change should also be (c) exploited. By implementing the Adaptation Strategy, vulnerable systems should be more resilient than they are today and more useful in the overall adaptation of society to climate change. The purpose of the Adaptation Strategy is to bring together all relevant institutional, political, economic and social stakeholders in order to create sufficient support for the implementation of joint adaptation measures and activities, requiring a proactive approach. This means that actions and measures should be taken immediately, because any delay will reduce their effectiveness and make them more expensive. During the work on the Adaptation Strategy, the sectors most expectedly exposed to the impact of climate change were identified: water resources, agriculture, forestry, fisheries and aquaculture, biodiversity, energy, tourism and health / health. Two cross-cutting themes that are key to implementing comprehensive and effective adaptation to climate change are also addressed: spatial planning and disaster risk management and governance. This adaptation strategy identifies priority measures and coordinated action through short-term action plans and monitoring the implementation of measures.
