Low carbon development strategy of the Republic of Croatia until 2030 with a view to 2050.

This Low carbon development strategy of the Republic of Croatia until 2030 with a view to 2050, based on the provisions of the Croatian Law on climate change and ozone layer protection, has the purpose to initiate changes in Croatian society that will contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and which will enable the separation of economic growth from greenhouse gas emissions. The Republic of Croatia can and should contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, in accordance with ratified international agreements, although its share at the global level in total greenhouse gas emissions is small. However, this is certainly an opportunity to make a turnaround in all sectors with the help of EU funds, in which all levels of government and the business world should participate. The change of Croatian society and economy to low-carbon should be achieved through investment in green business and technology, innovation and development, which will contribute to strengthening competitiveness in the common European market. A low-carbon strategy leads to a vision of a society in which we will live healthier, more comfortable, with low-carbon growth and efficient resource management. As part of the EU, Croatia shares the climate ambition expressed in the European Green Plan of the European Commission (2019), that the EU be climate neutral by 2050. The general objectives of the Low Carbon Strategy are: achieving sustainable development based on knowledge and a competitive low-carbon economy and resource efficiency; increase security of energy supply, sustainability of energy supply, increase energy availability and reduce energy dependence; solidarity by fulfilling the obligations of the Republic of Croatia under international agreements (also Paris Agreement), within the framework of EU policy, as part of our historical responsibility and contribution to global goals; reduction of air pollution and the impact on the health and quality of life of citizens.
