Abstract
This Regulation lays down the conditions and standards for composition and labelling of the food for special medical purposes.
Food for special medical needs which is placed on the market must meet the conditions prescribed in this Regulation and the Regulation on foods for special dietary needs.
The composition of foods for special medical purposes shall be based on secure medical and nutritional principles. Use of these foods in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions must be safe, beneficial and effective in meeting the special dietary requirements by the intended person in accordance with generally accepted scientific knowledge.
The name under which the food for special medical needs should be placed on the market is "Food for special medical purposes."

Entry into force notes
This Regulation enters into force eight days after its publication in the Official Gazette.
Notes
On the effective date of this Regulation, the Regulation on foods for special dietary needs (Official Gazette 81/04)will be no longer in force, in the part related to foods for special medical purposes.
