Abstract
This Regulation prescribes the conditions to be met by food for special dietary needs when placing on the market.
Food for special dietary needs, is food that, due to the special composition or special manufacturing methods, is different from the usual diet food, which is suitable for its stated nutritional properties and is marketed in a way that the suitability is highlighted.
Foods for special dietary needs must meet special dietary requirements for: a) persons with a disturbed digestion or metabolism; b) a person whose physiological condition requires a certain food ingredients with a controlled and targeted diet; c) healthy infants or small children.
In terms of this Regulation, food for special dietary needs can be divided into the following categories: foods for infants and toddlers; processed cereal-based foods for infants and toddlers; gluten free; foods for people with disabilities in carbohydrate metabolism (diabetes); foods with low energy and reduced values for the reduction of body weight; food for athletes and people with increased physical activity; foods for special medical needs; other foods for special dietary needs.

Entry into force notes
This Regulation enters into force eight days after its publication in the Official Gazette, except for the provisions of article 14 which shall come into force on 30 June 2010, and article 16 paragraph 3 and article 17 paragraph 3, which shall enter into force upon accession of the Croatian Republic into the European Union.
Notes
On the effective date of this Regulation, the Regulation on foods for special dietary needs (Official Gazette 78/08) will be no longer in force.
