Regulation on the health safety of materials and objects made of ceramics that come into direct contact with food.

This Regulation prescribes the health safety standards for materials and objects made of ceramics that come into direct contact with food. The provisions of this text relate to the possible migration of lead and cadmium from ceramic products which, as finished products, are intended to come into contact with food or are in contact with food and are intended for that purpose. Ceramic products in the sense of this Regulation are considered to be products produced from a mixture of inorganic materials with a generally high content of clay or silicate to which small amounts of organic substances may be added. These products are first shaped and the resulting shapes are permanently fixed by baking. They can be glazed, enameled and/or decorated. With this Regulation, the following are transferred into the legal order of the Republic of Croatia: Council Directive 84/500/EEC of 15 October 1984 on the approximation of the laws of the Member States relating to ceramic articles intended to come into contact with foodstuffs; Commission Directive 2005/31/EC of 29 April 2005 amending Council Directive 84/500/EEC with regard to the declaration of conformity and performance criteria of the method of analysis for ceramic products that come into contact with food. The quantity of lead and cadmium released by ceramic products are determined by testing in accordance with the conditions specified in Annex I, using the analysis method described in Annex II. Necessary contents of the related declaration of conformity are given in the Annex III.
