Abstract
The intention of this Act is to ensure proper nutrient content in feedstuffs so as to exploit the genetic potential of farm animals, to ensure that feedstuffs do not harm directly to animals and indirectly to human health, and that products of animal origin meet quality standards, and to safeguard the interest of feedstuffs users. This Law deals with the quality, safety, production, storage, distribution, use, transport, international trade, authorization, registration, inspection and analysis of all type of feedstuffs, their ingredients and additives, and to the authorization, registration and inspection of feedstuff producing, storing and marketing plants and premises. Authorities competent in these matters are the Ministry of Agriculture and Regional Development, the National Institute for Agricultural Quality Control, the Animal Vaccines, Drugs and Feedstuffs Institute, and the county veterinary and food control services. Their duties and competencies are determined in Articles 11-12. Provisions regarding authorization and registration of new products are laid down in Articles 7-8. Packaging and marking of feedstuffs are ruled in Article 9. Article 10 deals with the Hungarian Feedstuffs Codex (Codex Pabularis Hungaricus), which is a collection of binding rules and recommended norms regarding feedstuffs. Producers of feedstuffs, which do not meet standards, are liable to a quality protection penalty.
