Abstract
The National Agricultural Classification Institute (NACI) is responsible for the management and conservation of protected indigenous animal species (falling under Decree No. 36 of 1994 of the Ministry of Agriculture determining the sphere of protected indigenous and endangered animal species). Breeding programmes for these species are elaborated by NACI and recognized breeding organizations may apply to carry them out. Article 2 deals with the content of breeding programmes for these species. The NACI stipulates an agreement for the carrying out of a breeding programme with the appointed breeding organization (Article 3). Article 4 lays down provisions for the subsidization of breeding activities. The allocation and rates of subsidies are decided by NACI on the basis of annual supervision, resources available and on the number of animals eligible for subsidization. The annex specifies actual subsidy rates. Sanctions for non-performance of agreements and for endangering the preservation of species are set forth in Article 5.
