Abstract
This Act provides for the protection of consumers and for this purpose establishes the National Consumer Agency.
Part 3 regulates commercial practices; it establishes a general prohibition on unfair commercial practices and distinguishes among misleading, aggressive and prohibited practices. Part 4 and 4A discipline respectively Pyramid Promotional Scheme and Gift Voucher Contracts. Part 5 regulates proceeding, remedies and penalties.
Entry into force notes
This Act shall come into operation on such day or days as the Minister may appoint by order or orders either generally or with reference to any particular purpose or provision and different days may be so appointed for different purposes or different provisions, including the application of section 4 to different enactments specified in Schedule 2 and to different provisions of those enactments.

All Acts up to and including the Redundancy Payments (Amendment) Act 2022 (3/2022), enacted 31 March 2022, and all statutory instruments up to and including the Consumer Protection Act 2007 (Grocery Goods Undertakings) (Revocation) Regulations 2022 (S.I. No. 150 of 2022), made 30 March 2022, were considered in the preparation of this revision.Acts listed in Schedule 2 are repealed or amended.
