European Communities (Control of Foot and Mouth Disease) Regulations 2012 (S.I. No. 51 of 2012).

These Regulations give effect to Council Directive 2003/85/EC on Community measures for the control of foot and mouth disease (as amended). They require an (suspected) outbreak of foot and mouth disease to be notified and prescribe measures in the case suspicion of and of confirmation of an outbreak of foot and mouth disease. One of the measures that may be taken by public authorities is the establishment of protection and surveillance zones, from and to which movement of animals and specified material of animal origin (including dung, semen, ova and embryos collected from animals of susceptible species, milk and meat) is restricted.
