Abstract
These Regulations carry into effect in Ireland provisional emergency phytosanitary measures to prevent the introduction into and the spreading within the European Union of the harmful organism Diabrotica virgifers Le Conte.
They prohibit the introduction or having in possession of, moving or having control over this harmful organism and prescribe various measures to fight the spreading of it. These measures include: establishing of safety zones around the field where the presence of a harmful organism is confirmed; and prescribing rules in respect of the cultivation of maize of the safety zones and the movement of maize out of such zones. The Regulations also provide for the appointment of authorized officers, define powers of such officers and prescribes offences.
