Abstract
This Act makes provision with respect to a variety of matters affecting forestry in Ireland: administration of forestry sector; felling of trees; forest management plans; general and special functions of the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine and the role of minister in safeguarding environment; removal or destruction of vegetation on land; preservation orders; afforestation, forest road works and aerial fertilisation of forests; replanting; enforcement; regulation-making powers of the Minister; and offences and penalties. The Minister may establish one or more committees to assist and advise him or her in the performance of any of his or her functions under the relevant statutory provisions. The Minister may issue notices concerning destruction of vegetation on land, or destruction of vermin and preservation or replanting orders. Where a person wishes to fell or otherwise remove any tree or trees or to undertake afforestation, forest road works or aerial fertilisation of forests, he or she shall apply to the Minister for a licence to do so. Certain provisions of the Act concern the prervation of water quality.

An Act to make further and better provision in relation to forestry, to provide for the development and promotion of forestry in a manner that maximises the economic, environmental and social value of forests within the principles of sustainable forest management, to confer power on the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine to make regulations for the effective management of the forestry sector, to make further provision for the giving effect to acts of the institutions of the European Union by regulation made by that Minister in respect of forestry and forestry-related activities, to repeal the Forestry Act 1946, to amend the Wildlife Act 1976, to amend the Agriculture Appeals Act 2001, to amend the Environment (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2011 and to provide for related matters.
