Abstract
The Planning and Development Act 2024 consolidates and revises the law relating to planning and development, aiming to ensure proper planning and sustainable development for the common good. It repeals and replaces the Planning and Development Act 2000, amending various other enactments. The Act encompasses a wide range of provisions, including the licensing of events and control of funfairs, amendments to the Residential Tenancies Act 2004, the Residential Tenancies (Amendment) Act 2019, the Land Development Agency Act 2021, and the National Asset Management Agency Act 2009. It addresses the concept of development, plans, policies, development consents, housing strategy and supply, control of development, environmental assessments, judicial review, architectural heritage, enforcement, appeal procedures, financial provisions, strategic development zones, urban development zones, and compulsory acquisition and purchase of land and maritime sites. The Act also includes transitional arrangements, consequential amendments, and provisions related to rent pressure zones, and owners' management companies.
