Abstract
This Act provides for various matters of miscellaneous character so as to implement the International Convention on Liability and Compensation for Damage in Connection with the Carriage of Hazardous and Noxious Substances by Sea, 1996 and the Protocol of 1996 to amend the Convention on Limitation of Liability for Maritime Claims, 1976. The Act contains provisions, among other things, relative to ship insurance certificates and the Hazardous and Noxious Substances Fund.

An Act to give effect to the International Convention on Liability and Compensation for Damage in Connection with the Carriage of Hazardous and Noxious Substances by Sea, 1996, done at London on the 3rd day of May, 1996; to give effect to the Protocol of 1996 to amend the Convention on Limitation of Liability for Maritime Claims, 1976, done at London on the 2nd day of May, 1996, and for that purpose to amend the Merchant Shipping (Liability of Shipowners And Others) Act 1996; to amend the Oil Pollution of the Sea (Civil Liability and Compensation) Act 1988; and to provide for matters connected therewith.

All Acts up to and including the Child and Family Agency (Amendment) Act 2021 (34/2021), enacted 24 November 2021, and all statutory instruments up to and including the Maritime Jurisdiction Act 2021 (Commencement) Order 2021 (S.I. No. 601 of 2021), made 17 November 2021, were considered in the preparation of this Revised Act.
