Abstract
These Regulations give effect to the provisions of European Parliament and Council Directive 2011/65/EU on the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment with a view to contributing to the protection of human health and the environment, including the environmentally sound recovery and disposal of waste electrical and electronic equipment. They aim to improve the safety of electronic products and prevent the release of hazardous substances into the environment. The prohibition on heavy metals and other dangerous chemicals in electrical and electronic equipment of the repealed Regulations has now been extended to a wider range of products.
