Animal Diseases Regulations (Import of Animals), 1974.

Section 4 establishes that any import of animals is subject to a written permit granted by the Director of the Veterinary Services. Pursuant to sections 5-7, animals need to be unloaded in accordance with the instructions of the veterinarian and to be transferred in quarantine conform specified conditions. According to section 8 the Director is entitled to return animals to the country of origin. Sections 9 to 13 provide for the duration of quarantine, quarantine stations and quarantine procedures. Sections 14 and 15 specify fees to be paid for the quarantine. Sections 16-20 provide for procedures to be observed during quarantine until the time of release. Section 21 and 22 concern imported fodder, litter and equipment to be unloaded or destroyed according to the instructions of the Director. Section 23 establishes provisions concerning the import of animals for slaughter. Section 24 deals with importation of poultry. Cats, dogs and birds are exempt from some or all of these regulations under specified conditions (sect. 25).
