Abstract
This Act makes provision for the establishment, registration, operation and management of Cooperative Societies in the State of Assam.
The Act empowers the State Government to appoint an officer to be the Registrar of Cooperative Societies for the State or any portion of it for the registration, supervisions, assistance, counsel of cooperative societies and for the all-round development of the Cooperative movement in the State.
The Act further provides for: societies which may be registered; co-operative bank to be eligible co-operative bank; rights and liabilities of members of registered societies; management of registered societies; accounyability and privileges of registered societies; funds of registered societies; audit; inquiry and inspection; settlement of disputes; dissolution of societies; recovery of sums due and enforcement of obligations; offences and penalties; etc.

An Act to consolidate and amend the-law relating to Cooperative Societies in the State of Assam to facilitate the voluntary formation and democratic functioning of Cooperative Societies as people’s institutions based on self-help and mutual aid and to enable them to promote their economic and social betterment.
