Abstract
This Act makes provision for the establishment, registration, operation and management of Cooperative Societies in the Province of Assam.
The Act empowers the State Government to appoint a person to be the Registrar of Cooperative Societies for the registration, supervision, assistance, counsel and control of registered societies. The Act also sets out criteria and conditions for registration of cooperative societies.
The Act further provides for: insured Cooperative Banks; rights and liabilities of members of registered societies; management and operation of registered societies; duties and privileges of registered societies; property and funds of registered societies; audit; inquiry and inspection; settlement of disputes; dissolution of societies; recovery of sums due and enforcement of obligations; offences and penalties; etc.

This Act enters into force on 1 April 1950.

Consolidated version of Assam Act No. I of 1950 as amended last by Assam Act No. XIX of 1990.This Act repeals the Cooperative Societies Act, 1912 (Act No. II of 1912) in so far as it applies to Assam.
