Abstract
The Rules provide for the institution of an Institutional Animals Ethics Committee which shall deliberate and supervise experiments conducted on animals for research in the field of physiology, pathology and treatment in order to ensure the compliance with the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 (59 of 1960). Breeders or any individual or institution keeping animals with the purpose of conducting experiments must possess a Certificate of Registration and must abide to the aforesaid mentioned Act. All medical procedures must minimize animal pain or inconvenience, trade of experiment animals must be conducted only with appointed registered breeders and during the trials, Veterinaries or Medical Doctors must attend the experimental sessions.
