Consumer Protection Act, 1986 (No. 68 of 1986).

This Act applies to all goods and services. The Act provides for the establishment of the Central level and State level Consumer Protection Councils to promote and protect the rights of the consumers. The Act defines the composition of the Councils and provides for its objects. The Act also establishes a Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum in each district of the States to be known as “District Forum” and a Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission to be known as the “State Commission” in each State. The Act provides for the composition and jurisdiction of the Consumer Disputes Redressal agencies and for the manner and procedures in which complaints shall be made.
