Abstract
This Act provides for the efficient use of energy and its conservation at the Central and State level.
The Act shall extend to the whole of India except the State of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Act establishes a Bureau of Energy Efficiency which shall introduce stringent energy conservation norms for energy generation, supply and consumption. Measures shall include: pilot phase of programmes for energy efficiency in government buildings; development of energy conservation building codes; formulation of energy efficiency codes and standards; introducing educational programs to increase awareness regarding efficient use of energy resources; etc.
The Act further provides for finances, accounts and audits of the Bureau, for penalties and for rule making powers of the Central Government.
