Abstract
This Act provides for the establishment of the Food Corporation of India (FCI).
The Corporation shall be a body corporate and shall have the following functions: to undertake the purchase, storage, transport, distribution and sale of food grains and other foodstuff; promote the production of food grains and other foodstuff; set up, or assist in the setting up of, rice mills, flour mills, etc. for the processing of food grains and other foodstuff; etc.
The Act further recognizes the power of the Central Government to establish State Food Corporations and a Board of Management in a State where no State Food Corporation is functioning. Composition, meetings, appointment of officers, etc. are provided for in the text.
The Act also provides for rule making powers of the Central Government, regulation making powers of a Food Corporation and for offences.
