Abstract
These Regulations provide for the standard for infant food and infant milk substitutes. They consist of four chapters: 1. Preliminary; 2. Infant Milk Substitute; 3. Infant Food; and 4. Food for special medical purpose intended for infants.
Chapter 1 contains short title, commencement, definitions and general requirements in respect of infant food which includes compliance with laws and regulations mentioned therein. It also states that labelling of the food for infant nutrition shall be in accordance with the Food Safety and Standards (Labelling and Display) Regulations, 2020 and the specific labelling requirements provided under the Regulations. Chapter 2 lays down the standard for infant formula in liquid or powdered form intended for use as a substitute for human milk during the first six month. It includes conditions with regards to the composition of such infant formula and permissible additives. Chapter 3 provides for the standard in respect of milk cereal based complementary food, processed cereal based complementary food; follow-up formula; and food for infants based on traditional food ingredients, for infants from six months up to twenty four months of age. Chapter 4 contains standards in respect of food for special medical purpose intended for infants from birth to 24 months to meet the special nutritional requirements arising from the disorders, diseases or medical conditions and for whose dietary management the product has been formulated. Further, the chapter provides for specific standard relating to preterm infant milk substitute; lactose free infant milk substitutes; hypoallergenic infant milk substitutes; and foods for infants with inborn errors of metabolism.

Entry into force notes
They shall come into force on the date of their publication in the Official Gazette and Food Business Operator shall comply with all the provisions of these regulations by 1st July, 2021.
