Abstract
These regulations prescribe the labelling requirements of pre-packaged foods and display of essential information. Regulation 4 lays down the general requirements in respect of labelling of prepackaged foods including declarations, language, description etc. Regulation 5 requires that every package shall carry the information on the label such as name of food; list of ingredients; nutritional information; declaration regarding veg or non-veg.; declaration regarding food additives; name and complete address of the brand owner/importer; FSSAI logo and license number; quantity, price, date markings and other information as mentioned therein. Regulation 7 requires mandatory declarations to be given in case of certain ingredients and additives mentioned in Schedule II. Regulation 8 provides exemption from certain labelling requirements. Regulation 9 contains requirement for display of information in food service establishments and Regulation 10 provides for labelling of non-retail packaged food. Regulation 11 & 12 mention the labelling of packaged food additives for retail and non-retail sale.
