Abstract
This Act regulates fishing operations off the coastline of the Union territory of Goa, Daman and Diu. The Act consists of 4 Chapters divided into 28 sections.
The Government shall have the power to regulate, restrict or prohibit fishing in any specified area; the use of fishing gear; catching specific fish species in specific periods, etc. (sect. 4). In order to carry out fishing operations, fishing vessels are to obtain both a licence (sect. 6) and to register the fishing boat under this Act (sect. 12). The Government shall have the power to regulate the mesh size of fishing nets and the authorized officer shall grant licences for using a fishing net (sects. 7 and 8). Chapter III contains penal provisions, outlines powers of authorized officers and regulates seizure of catch and the impounding of vessels. Chapter IV deals with provisions of miscellaneous nature.
