Abstract
This Act establishes the Land Ports Authority of India for the development and management of facilities for cross border movement of passengers and goods. It consists of 37 sections over six chapters: I. Preliminary; II. The Land Ports Authority of India; III. Functions of Authority; IV. Property and Contract; V. Finance, Accounts and Audit; and VI. Miscellaneous.
Chapter I contains the short title, commencement and definitions. Chapter II establishes the Land Ports Authority of India (Authority) headed by a chairperson. It provides for the term of office and conditions of service of the members, meetings and appointment of officers and other employees. Chapter III lays down the functions of the Authority including developing, sanitizing and managing the facilities for cross border movement of passengers and goods at designated points along the international borders of India. Chapter IV vests in the Authority, the ownership, possession, assets and liabilities in land ports held by the government of India. Chapter V contains provisions relating to finance and accounts of the Authority. Chapter VI requires the Authority to submit annual reports and empowers the government to supersede or issue directions to the Authority.
