Abstract
These Rules are framed in exercise of the powers conferred by section 352R of the Merchant Shipping Act, 1958 (Act). Rule 3 provides for the limitation of liability of the owner of the ship for oil pollution damage. Rules 4 and 5 provides for the procedure for issue or renewal of Certificate of Insurance/other Financial Security in respect of oil pollution damage to be obtained for an Indian ship. As per Rule 7, contravention of any provision of the Rules shall be punishable in accordance with the provisions of section 458 of the Act.
