Abstract
These Rules are framed in exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) read with clauses (d), (e) and (l) of sub-section (2) of section 435U of the Merchant Shipping Act, 1958. Rule 3 provides for application by the owner, agent or skipper of an Indian fishing boat to a Registrar for certificate of inspection. Rule 4 requires the Registrar to cause the Indian fishing boat to be inspected by a Surveyor upon receipt of an application. Rules 5 and 6 lay down the criteria and parameters of inspection. As per Rule 8, once the Registrar is satisfied on the basis of the report of the Surveyor, the certificate shall be issued.
