Abstract
This Act provides for the establishment of a tribunal to be known as the National Green Tribunal to exercise the jurisdiction, powers and authority conferred on it by or under this Act.
The Tribunal shall have the jurisdiction over all civil cases where a substantial question relating to environment is involved. The Tribunal may by order provide relief and compensation to the victims of pollution and other environmental damage arising under the enactments specified in Schedule I, for restitution of property damaged and for restitution of the environment for such areas as the Tribunal may think fit.
The Act further provides for: liability to pay relief or compensation in certain cases; procedures and powers of the Tribunal; offences and penalties; rule making powers of the Central Government; etc.

An Act to provide for the establishment of a National Green Tribunal for the effective and expeditious disposal of cases relating to environmental protection and conservation of forests and other natural resources including enforcement of any legal right relating to environment and giving relief and compensation for damages to persons and property and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.
