Abstract
This Act amends the Northern India Canal and Drainage Act, 1873 (principal Act), in its application to the State of Punjab. Section 36 of the principal Act relating to levy of water cess is substituted. The water cess collected shall be used by the State Government for maintenance and development of irrigation infrastructure. In the principal Act, sections 37, 38 and 39 shall be omitted. Section 44 is amended to replace the words water-rate with water-cess.
