Abstract
The purpose of this Act is to control and regulate the grazing of cattle and the cutting of grass in protected or reserved forests.
The Act recognizes the power of the Divisional Forest Officer to declare any forest to be closed to grazing. The Officer shall specify in the notification the period of closure and shall demarcate the closed area.
The Act allows the grazing of cattle in protected forests but prohibits the grazing in reserved forests except in the open areas and in accordance with a permit issued by the Divisional Forest Officer.
The Act further makes special provision for plantation areas and provides for penalties.
