Abstract
These Regulations are framed by the Veterinary Council of India (Council) in exercise of the powers conferred by the Indian Veterinary Council Act, 1984 (Act) and provide for the minimum standards for veterinary education in India. It consists of seven parts: I. Preliminary; II. Course of Study; III. Admission to the Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry Degree Course; IV. Veterinary Curriculum – Structuring and Organization of Course Curriculum; V. Courses and Course Contents; VI. Minimum Standards of Veterinary Education; and VII. Grading Scheme for Veterinary Colleges.
Part I provides for short title, date of commencement and definitions. Part II lays down the requirements in respect of the degree course of Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry (course) including the duration of the professional year and procedure to be adopted for imparting training in the veterinary hospitals or institutions and internship. Part III makes provisions relating to the criteria for admission and selection of students for admission to the course. Part IV specifies the structure and organization of course curriculum, subjects to be covered, syllabus, internship, examination and evaluation. It also provides for standards with regards to teachers and examiners, attendance requirements, scrutiny of answer papers and grading. Part V gives the year-wise distribution of courses and the detailed course contents. Part VI contains the minimum standard requirements for a veterinary college in respect of number of departments, land and infrastructure including a Livestock Farm Complex, minimum staff for each department, equipment and other facilities. Part VII provides the grading scheme for veterinary colleges to be evaluated by the Council on the basis of inspection under section 19 of the Act.
