West Bengal Municipal Act, 1993 (West Bengal Act XXII of 1993).

This West Bengal Municipal Act, 1993 consists of 442 Sections divided into 10 Parts: I. Preliminary; II. Municipal Areas; III. Finance; IV. Municipal Taxation and Application Fee; V. Regulatory Jurisdiction; VI. Civic Services; VII. Urban And Regional Planning and Development; VIII. Community Health; IX. Other Authorities; X. Powers, Procedures, Penalties and Savings.
Under the Part VI Civic Services, Chapter XV provides for water-supply, covering public tanks, sub-soil water, etc., to vest in the, construction of water-works, power to lay or carry pipes through public or private land, power to permit, etc; Chapter XVI provides for Drainage and Sewerage, including: public drains, trunk-sewers etc. to vest in the municipality, control of board of councillors over drainage, treatment and disposal of sewage, construction or maintenance of drainage and sewerage systems, etc; Chapter XVII deals with Solid Wastes, which covers: Collection, removal and disposal of solid wastes, Provision for receptacles, depots and places for temporary deposit, etc; Chapter XVIII provides for markets and slaughter houses, including: Municipal licence specially for sale of flesh, fish or poultry, power to inspect places where unlawful slaughter of animals, etc. is suspected, etc.
