Abstract
This Law, which consists of 34 Articles, aims to prevent and control air and noise pollution in country. The Department of Environment is the responsible authority to implement the provisions of this Law. In emergency situations, the Department should consider some temporary restrictions to confront air pollution sources and to prevent the harmful effects of polluted air. The production and importation of various types of motor vehicles should be consistent with the emission limitations set out by this Law. Annual technical examination is mandatory for all vehicles in the country in order to control air and noise pollutants. The establishment of any new industrial unit or changing the location of existing factories is subject to the compliance with the provisions of this Law. All newly established industrial and manufacturing units are obliged to dedicate at least 10% of their area to green spaces. The Oil Ministry is obliged, within three years from the entry into force of this Law, to produce the country’s required fuel, in accordance with the national standards. The Ministry of Energy is required to develop, produce and supply renewable energies in an extent that at least 30% of the annual increase in the electricity needs of the country can be provided through renewable energy sources. The Law prohibits the accumulation or burning of hospital, industrial, household and construction waste in public areas and open spaces as well as burning of plant residues after harvesting. The Ministry of Roads and Urban Development in cooperation with the Iran’s Meteorological Organization are responsible to upgrade the national early warning system, within two years from the entry into force of this Law.
