Abstract
The purpose of this Act is to protect aquatic ecosystems, aquatic fish and aquatic animals raised on land or in the sea by combating diseases and parasites. It contains the following Chapters: I. Objectives, scope, definitions and administration; II. On the import of live fish and roe; III. Various provisions; and IV. Penalty and entry into force provisions.
It applies to freshwater fish and the import of fish and roe into Icelandic territory. It lays down rules on the import of live freshwater fish, the import of ornamental fish, transport of fish, disinfection of fishing gear and equipment, imports of dead fish, response to diseases and parasites in fishing waters or fish farms, etc.
The implementation of the Act is in the hands of the Icelandic Food and Veterinary Authority. The Executive shall lay down further provisions on the implementation of this Act in a regulation.
