Abstract
The purpose of the present Regulation, issued by the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries, is to ensure good living conditions, good care, health and welfare of aquatic animals as well as to prevent the spread and eradicate infectious diseases in aquatic animals. The regulation covers all those who work in aquaculture, are involved in their transport and are involved in the operation of fishing farms. The Regulation contains 23 articles divided into the following chapters: I. Purpose and scope; II. Audit and monitoring; III. Treatment and care; IV. Facilities; V. Research and analysis; VI. Treatment of diseases; VII. Use of drugs; VIII. Issuance of health certificates and reporting; VIII. Costs for monitoring and research; X. Penalties, etc.
The Regulation mandates the requirement of an operating license to operate fishing farms for aquatic animals. The Regulation otherwise covers matters such as official controls, general care of aquatic animals, feeding, reproduction, killing of fish, infection control, the use of GMOs, the use of veterinary drugs, etc.
