Regulation No. 1043/2011 on checks on the health of farmed animals and animal products in trade within the European Economic Area.

This regulation establishes Icelandic rules for animal-health checks on live farmed aquaculture animals and related animal products traded within the EEA. It applies in particular to live fish, crustaceans and molluscs from aquaculture establishments, at any stage of development, including wild aquatic animals intended for farming, as well as their products and other animal products covered by the linked EEA rules. The regulation requires animals and products to come from officially supervised establishments, be identifiable and traceable, meet relevant EEA animal-health requirements, and be accompanied by the necessary health certificates or documents. It provides for checks at origin and destination, including document controls, random inspections, sampling, quarantine where needed, and measures in cases of disease risk or non-compliance, such as isolation, slaughter, destruction, return of consignments, suspension of activities or withdrawal of approval. It also sets notification duties between EEA authorities, safeguard measures for zoonotic or animal-disease risks, record-keeping duties for distributors, and enforcement by the Icelandic Food and Veterinary Authority and local health committees.
