Act No. 55 on Seafood Products.

The purpose of this Act is to assure consumers that Icelandic seafood products are wholesome, meet the set quality requirements, are processed under adequate hygienic conditions, and that labelling and information about them are adequate. It provides rules relative to the safety of Icelandic marine catch and fish products including animal feed produced from marine products but excluding marine mammals and its products. The Act applies to the handling, processing, and distribution of seafood products, as well as the monitoring of slaughtering, processing, packaging, and distribution of marine, freshwater, and farmed fish. It does not apply to retail sales within the country.
