Regulation No. 151/2005 on the conservation and use of genetic resources in agriculture.

This regulation establishes the role and tasks of Iceland’s Agricultural Genetic Resources Committee in conserving and sustainably using genetic resources in agriculture, in line with the Convention on Biological Diversity. It applies to genetic resources that are or may be valuable for Icelandic agriculture or have cultural value, including livestock breeds and agricultural plants, and requires the committee to coordinate national work, advise on imports of new animal species or foreign breeds, prepare conservation and use plans, monitor population sizes, support research and education, and recommend measures or grants for endangered breeds. It also requires three-year strategic planning, annual reports, and conservation assessments for proposed animal imports that may affect Icelandic genetic resources.
