Regulation No. 560/2010 on the import of deep-frozen boar semen.

This regulation governs the import of deep-frozen boar semen into Iceland to prevent the introduction of infectious animal diseases. Imports require a permit from the Icelandic Food and Veterinary Authority and may only come from healthy, identified boars at approved Norwegian insemination stations, following isolation and veterinary inspection. Semen must be accompanied by official health and origin certificates covering diseases such as foot-and-mouth disease, Aujeszky’s disease, classical swine fever, brucellosis, PRRS and African swine fever. The regulation also controls custody and distribution after arrival, limits use to licensed disease-free pig farms with proper semen-handling facilities, sets hygiene and record-keeping duties, places costs on the importer, and provides for penalties under animal import and disease legislation.
