Abstract
This Regulation lays down special exemptions and requirements for slaughtering and cutting in small sheep and goat slaughterhouses, defined as facilities allowed to slaughter a maximum of 30 animals per day. It sets conditions on hygiene, animal welfare, premises, separation of clean and unclean areas, staff clothing, water supply, equipment sterilisation, internal controls based on HACCP principles, and veterinary inspection before and after slaughter. It also regulates the reception of animals from other farms, subject to approval by the Icelandic Food and Veterinary Authority, and prohibits slaughter of animals from different disease-control zones or higher-risk holdings. The regulation further covers disposal of animal by-products and specified risk material, official supervision, market control, penalties, and requires the authority to issue guidance on the main conditions for slaughtering and cutting in such small facilities.
