Abstract
The present Act has been adopted to lay down rules governing the use and placing on the market of fertilizers, the definition of which is laid down in article 2. Fertilizers are substances which, due to their nutrient content or their particular chemical, physical and biological features, improve soil fertility and contribute to the nutrition and development of cultivated plant species. Fertilizers are classified under article 1 into the two main categories referred therein. Fertilizers comprise mineral and organic products. Article 2 (4) lists out the chemical elements of fertility. Articles 5 and 6 provide for the classification of, on the one hand, mineral fertilizers and, on the other hand, organic fertilizers. Article 8 regulates the placing on the market of fertilizers, giving particular regard to the indications that shall appear on the labels. Article 10 provides for the setting up of a Technical and Advisory Committee for Fertilizers. Article 12 lays down the penalties to be applied in case of infringement.
