Abstract
The provisions of this Law are aimed at defining the effective hygienic and sanitary rules and procedures for the necessary supervisions over the safe and controlled production, processing and trade with food substances and beverages. Food substances are here considered as subject important to the protection of the public health.
This text further provides for various conditions as regards the sanitary authorizations necessary for food operators and transporters, some basic food quality standards (see article 5) and some food hygiene issues in terms of materials being in contact with foodstuff (see article 11), sampling of foodstuff and beverages aimed for human consumption, analysis and inspection rules; and determines the list of competent national bodies. This Law also stipulates the offences and sets the related penalties.
This Law cancels the provisions of articles 242, 243, 247, 250 and 262 of the consolidated text of sanitary laws (approved with royal Decree 27 July 1934, n. 1265).
