Abstract
This Italian national Legislative Decree is aimed at protecting human health from the risks deriving from the poor quality of bathing water also through environmental protection and improvement and integrates the provisions of the third part of the Italian Legislative Decree 3 April 2006, n. 152, and its subsequent modifications.
This decree establishes provisions regarding the: monitoring and classification of bathing water quality; management of bathing water quality; information to the public on the quality of bathing water. This text applies to surface waters or their parts on which the competent authority expects that mass public bathing shall take place.
These rules are not meant for swimming pools and spas; confined waters subject to treatment or used in therapeutic purposes; confined waters artificially created and separated from surface water and groundwater.
State competences are laid down in article 3; Regional competences in article 4; for related Municipal competences see article 5; detailed provisions on the quality and management of bathing water are provided in Chapter II (articles 6-13, setting rules on monitoring, assessment of the quality of bathing water, classification and qualitative status of bathing water, management measures in exceptional circumstances, risks from cyanobacteria and other).
