Abstract
In compliance with Act No. 979 of 1982 and Act No. 394 of 1991, this Ministerial Decree provides for the establishment of the marine protected area Capo Carbonara. Article 3 of the Decree lays down the coordinates demarcating the marine area. The aims pursued are the following: a) the protection of the environment of the marine area concerned; b) the promotion and improvement of biological resources as well as fish repopulation; c) the dissemination of information relating to ecological issues and the biology of marine and coastal environments; d) the development of educational projects; e) the performance of studies and scientific research in the ecological and marine biology fields (art. 4). Article 5 prohibits all activities that are likely to interfere with the protection of the environment and the achievement of the purposes of this Decree. Particularly prohibited are hunting, the introduction of capture means, the release of toxic substances and pollutants. Further provisions concern the subdivision of the whole marine area into three zones for particular protecting purposes (zones A, B, and C). The management of the marine area is entrusted by article 6 to the competent local entities. The University, Research Institutes as well as Environmentalist Associations shall contribute to the management of the marine area. Four Annexes, containing the maps and coordinates of the marine area, are attached.
