Abstract
In compliance with Act No. 979 of 1982 on sea safeguarding, this Ministerial Decree provides for the establishment of the Portofino marine portected area. Article 2 of the Decree sets out the points for the demarcation of this marine area. Article 3 specifies the aims pursued by establishing the marine area, which are the following: a) the protection of the environment; b) the protection and promotion of biological resources; c) the dissemination of information concerning the ecological and biological aspects of marine areas; d) the promotion of educational programmes; e) the development of studies and scientific researchs regarding ecological issues, marine biology and environment protection. Article 4 prohibits any activity which may interfere with the protection of the environment and the achievement of the aims pursued by this Decree. It prohibits in particular: hunting; introduction of animal and vegetable species other than autochthonous species; waste discharge; introduction of weapons or any kind of capture means as well as toxic substances and pollutants. Further provisions concern the subdivision of the marine area into Zone A, Zone B and Zone C, delimited in accordance with the points listed out by paragraphs 2, 4 and 7 of article 4 respectively. Article 5 refers to the management of the protected marine area.
