Abstract
This Provincial Act lays down rules on organic farming and integrated production with a view to restricting the use of chemical products in agriculture and protecting the environment. The Act is divided into four Titles.
Title II regulates organic farming. Article 5 establishes the Provincial Commission for Organic Farming. Article 6 defines its competences, which include: a) coordination of research and experimentation activities in the organic farming sector; b) elaboration of directives; c) inspection on enterprises which have been granted the protection mark; d) definition of limit values of residues of substances allowed; e) keeping of the provincial register (referred to in article 7) of organic farming enterprises and integrated production enterprises; f) approval of the protection marks referred to in article 14; g) recognition of organic farming associations, as provided for by article 12; h) approval of substances and methods allowed for the processing and conservation of organic products. Articles 8 to11 specify the obligations of organic farming enterprises as well as organic tranformation enterprises.
Title III concerns integrated production. Article 17 establishes the Provincial Commission for Integrated Production. Article 20 defines rights and obligations of enterprises that intend to place on the market products obtained through integrated processing methods. Title IV contains further provisions concerning initiatives of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, such as research and experimentation activities as well as allocation of financial resources.
